Brandon and Kat: A Love Story, Stronger at ZOOZ

March 10, 2026

At ZOOZ Fitness, we are lucky to witness so many incredible stories of growth, perseverance, and community. But every once in a while, a story comes along that reminds us what ZOOZ is really all about: connection, confidence, and showing up for one another.

That’s exactly what Brandon and Kat bring to ZOOZ every Tuesday and Thursday.

They are one of our favorite couples, but more importantly, they are two athletes whose relationship is built on friendship, loyalty, encouragement, and love.

A love story that started with friendship

Brandon and Kat met in 2015 through Special Olympics swimming. What began as a friendship grew over the years as they discovered how much they had in common. They bonded over sports, music, movies, and shared experiences, and by 2019, their friendship turned into something more.

Kat remembers Brandon asking her out to the movies and being completely speechless. Brandon knew early on there was something special about her. Today, after more than seven years together as a couple, they still light up when they talk about each other.

As Brandon put it, “There’s always someone for somebody.”

Their relationship is rooted in the things they love doing side by side: watching movies, listening to music, playing sports, and now, working out together at ZOOZ.

Finding a place where they could thrive

Before coming to ZOOZ, both Brandon and Kat were already active through Special Olympics and other sports. Friends from their community recommended ZOOZ, and once they started coming in 2025, it quickly became part of their routine.

They now attend twice a week and genuinely look forward to it.

For both of them, ZOOZ is about much more than exercise. It is a place where they feel comfortable, supported, and understood. They see familiar faces from Special Olympics, soccer, basketball, and other parts of their community, which makes every session feel welcoming and fun.

Kat and Brandon both say that coming to ZOOZ helps them stay healthy, get stronger, and become more active. Brandon loves the coaches, the activities, and the equipment. Kat appreciates how the workouts are helping her rebuild strength, especially after injuring her left arm in a snowboarding accident that kept her from sports and fitness for a period of time.

Their favorite exercise? The sled, without question.

Stronger together

Both Brandon and Kat have autism, and Kat also lives with epilepsy. Their disabilities are part of their lives, but they do not define the limits of what they can do, either individually or together.

What stands out most in talking to them is how deeply they support each other.

Kat speaks with heartfelt gratitude about Brandon being by her side, especially when life becomes difficult. Brandon talks about how important it is for them to be there for each other when one of them feels overwhelmed or upset. Whether they are navigating daily challenges, building confidence, or simply encouraging one another through a workout, they move through life as a team.

That teamwork shows up clearly at ZOOZ.

For Kat, having Brandon beside her during workouts means everything. There are things that can be difficult for her to do alone, and having a partner there makes her feel safer and more confident. For Brandon, working out together is another way they help each other grow stronger.

Kat said it best: “I’m just so grateful and happy that I found the right person that can take care of me.”

Their belief is simple: when one person is struggling, the other steps in to help.

It is hard to imagine a better example of what partnership looks like.

Why an inclusive gym matters

Brandon had experience in traditional gyms before ZOOZ. While those experiences were not entirely negative, he recognized that many people with disabilities need more support, understanding, and individualized guidance than typical gyms are prepared to offer.

That is where ZOOZ makes such a difference.

At ZOOZ, Brandon and Kat feel seen. They feel comfortable asking questions, receiving assistance, and working with coaches who understand both fitness and disability. They know they are in a place that meets them where they are and helps them keep progressing.

Kat said ZOOZ helps people become healthier, stronger, more active, and more independent. For her and Brandon, fitness is not just about physical change. It is also about confidence, social connection, and building skills that carry over into everyday life.

A parent’s perspective

Kat’s mom, Maggie, has seen firsthand what ZOOZ has meant for both Kat and Brandon.

From her perspective, the impact has been overwhelmingly positive. She says they truly look forward to coming and always feel good afterward. She has seen ZOOZ help release tension, improve physical fitness, and create a safe environment where they can fully be themselves.

Maggie also highlighted something many families of people with disabilities know all too well: traditional gyms often are not equipped to understand or support adults with disabilities. At ZOOZ, that is different.

“This is a safe environment for them,” she shared. “They can be who they are without anybody looking at them or criticizing them.”

For Maggie, one of the most special things about ZOOZ is the acceptance. The behaviors, sounds, or differences that might be misunderstood somewhere else are simply part of the environment here. Athletes are welcomed as they are, and that creates a sense of belonging that is hard to overstate.

She has also seen how ZOOZ supports Kat’s long-term goal of greater independence. While Kat faces real health challenges, including epilepsy and visual-spatial difficulties, working out has become an important source of strength, and confidence.

Challenging assumptions

One of the most powerful parts of Brandon and Kat’s story is the way they challenge assumptions about disability, relationships, and what people are capable of.

They both believe people should never be judged by disability, diagnosis, culture, or background. Instead, they want others to see personality, compassion, and shared values. Their relationship is proof that people with disabilities love deeply, support one another fully, and build meaningful lives together.

Kat and Brandon’s message is powerful. They want people to understand that everyone deserves love, respect, and the chance to find the right person. They believe people should never be judged by appearances or limitations, but instead given the opportunity to show who they really are.

Together, they are doing exactly that.

More than fitness

At ZOOZ, we talk a lot about strength. But Brandon and Kat remind us that strength comes in many forms.

It looks like showing up twice a week.

It looks like rebuilding after an injury.

It looks like supporting your partner through hard moments.

It looks like choosing happiness, music, movement, and community.

And sometimes, it looks like finding the perfect workout partner in the person you love.

Brandon and Kat’s story is about fitness, but it is also about belonging. It is about finding a place where you are welcomed, where your goals matter, and where you can keep growing stronger together.

We are so proud to have them as part of the ZOOZ family.
